What is Lincomycin HCl + Spectinomycin?

Lincomycin HCl + Spectinomycin Injection is a combination antibiotic drug used to treat respiratory tract infections, such as airsacculitis caused by Mycoplasma synoviae or M. gallisepticum. It is also used to treat foot rot in sheep caused by Bacteroides nodosus. This antibiotic is for use in dogs, cats and livestock animals like cows, goats, sheep, and pigs.

This antibiotic combination is effective against certain gram-positive and some gram-negative bacteria. Spectinomycin is classified in the aminocyclitol family of medicines. It works by inhibiting protein synthesis within the bacteria. Lincomycin is a bacteriostatic narrow-spectrum antibiotic of the lincosamide group.

Indications :

Used in most pathological cases caused by organisms sensitive to the combined action of Lincomycin and Spectinomycin, including:

• Abscesses and skin infections (anthrax, boils).
• Tonsillitis and upper respiratory tract infections.
• Arthritis.
• Bronchopulmonary infections.
• Acute bronchitis.
• Cystitis and genitourinary infections.
• Enteritis (hemorrhagic – bacillary).
• Pharyngitis.
• Lymphadenitis.
• Metritis (uterine inflammation).
• Mastitis.
• Mycoplasma infections.
• Pneumonia.
• Septicemia in cattle, sheep, goats, dogs, and cats.

Dosage and Administration :

Administered by intramuscular injection:

• Recommended dose: 1 ml per 10 kg of body weight daily for 3–4 days.
• Dogs and cats: 2 ml per 10 kg of body weight daily.
• Cattle, sheep, and goats: 1 ml per 10 kg of body weight daily.
• Poultry: 1 ml per 5 kg of body weight, administered subcutaneously.

Depending on the severity of symptoms, it is advisable to administer a second injection to calves 12 hours after the first dose on the first day.

Precautions :

• Do not use in animals with known hypersensitivity to any of the product’s components.
• Do not use in lactating females producing milk intended for human consumption.
• Do not use in laying hens producing eggs intended for human consumption.
• Exceeding the recommended dose is not advised at the end of the gestation period and at the beginning of lactation in sheep and goats.
• Do not administer to horses or rabbits.
